Meet the Cheerleaders: Erin D
Wednesday, November 21, 2007
Erin’s days are filled with reading, coursework and
exams, but not long from now she’ll be passing that knowledge on to
others.
A native of
Leawood,
Kan., Erin is a
Saint Louis
University psychology and biology
double major, with a minor in French. She graduates in May 2008, but until then
she’s pulling a 19-hour courseload.
“Ten years from now,
I’d like to be teaching at a university and performing research in clinical
psychology,” Erin says. “I’d also like to work in a
clinical setting.” Once she finishes her undergraduate studies, it’ll be on to
her doctoral degree, but Erin hasn’t yet decided where
she’ll apply. “I’m looking at schools’ research programs and trying to find a
good match,” she says. Currently, the Texas-born student is working as a
research assistant for a SLU master’s degree candidate.
Erin has been on point as a ballet dancer more
than half her life. As a young teenager, she spent at least 30 hours a week
practicing her craft. She studied jazz and modern dance as well, played the
French horn and was a member of the Somerset Ballet Company in the
Kansas City area at an early
age.
High school found
her captaining the varsity dance team, which took her three times to the
Universal Dance Association’s annual national competition. Currently she
participates in occasional performances with a local dance company. “I’ll become
more involved with that in the spring after graduation,” she says. She also has
signed on to teach ballet at an area dance academy.
When she gets an
occasional break from her studies, Erin practices yoga,
watches French movies and spends time with her pets, two cats and a bird. “I
also enjoy bowling,” she says. “My best score is 205.”
Erin is a captain of the Rams cheerleading squad
and represented the team at the February 2007 NFL Pro Bowl in
Honolulu. “That was incredibly
exciting,” she says. “I stayed in
Hawaii for nine days.” Already a
world traveler, she also has visited western Europe and
Japan.
She feels strongly about connecting to the community through the Rams
cheerleading program, and appreciates the opportunity to work with organizations
such as the USO, the Red Cross and Nurses for Newborns. Visits to military bases
and service members are especially meaningful, she says: “It’s a privilege to
shake their hands and tell them we appreciate what they’re
doing.”
